Installing Flexitec Stable Mats

You will need......

  • Tape measure
  • Chalk
  • Straight edge
  • Stanley knife (or similar)

The Flexitec Five Easy Installation Steps...

  1. Clean and disinfect the stable thoroughly. If you have used water, allow the area to dry before attempting to lay the mats.
  2. If the area has an uneven floor, make it as level as possible. Fill holes and compact the filling and scrape the tops off bumps or rises. Flat mats make cleaning easier and have neater joins.
  3. Place the mats required in the walkway outside each stable. Then you can measure and cut as required.
  4. Measure the internal dimensions of the stable and decide the best fitting pattern for that particular stable. Install mats, starting with those that don't need cutting. Make sure the side embossed with any moulding marks is on the bottom.
  5. Once they're in place, measure the remaining uncovered area, mark the desired mat with chalk and cut to fit using a utility knife and the straight edge as a cutting guide. Remember when cutting allow a little extra in the measurement to ensure a snug fit — usually about 10mm is adequate.
Note:
  1. When cutting a Flexitec mat, always use a metal straight edge for accuracy.
  2. Keep the knife sharp or replace the blade frequently. Don't try for a full cut at the first pass. Cut carefully at the first pass, then open the mat at the cut and repeat the pass with the knife as necessary.
  3. Always put your cut edge along a wall. Make certain the mats are pushed tightly together and can't move.
  4. Always make certain the mats have "settled" to the same temperature as the environment where they are to be installed.
  5. If the junction of the wall and floor is uneven we recommend pouring a narrow concrete plinth, 20mm thick, to provide a straight edge with square corners to the floor. This is easier and better than trying to cut the mat to suit.
  6. We recommend glueing of equine rubber to a concrete base. All joins and surrounds where rubber meets walls should also be adhered. We recommend 2 part epoxy 1718 Adhesive
