Common questions about Flexitec Pavers for Golf Areas

Do Flexitec pavers provide good slip resistance when people are not wearing spikes?
Yes, even when wet, Flexitec Pavers have such excellent slip resistance that they are specified on exposed pedestrian ramps in railway stations and hospitals.
Our members wear soft spikes so why should we lay Flexitec Pavers?
Soft spikes do not provide the same grip as metal ones. If a player slips or falls, the responsibility is yours. Note the following warning on a well-known soft spike manufacturer's packaging:
" WARNING: Champ Tred-Lite cleats do not provide the same traction as metal spikes on damp or hilly surfaces. They are not intended for use on hard surfaces such as concrete, ice, rocks, hardwood, marble or tile floors etc. because they are made of hard polyurethane that may cause them to slip or skate on such surfaces. Use on any of these surfaces may cause the user to slip or fall and sustain serious injuries."
Do Flexitec pavers stand up to the torture test of constant spike traffic?
Every Flexitec rubber paver contains millions of rubber granules bonded together with a high strength polyurethane binder. A protruding spike easily slips between adjoining granules and does not grind the surface away like brick pavers or concrete. Some surface wear may occur where spiked golf shoes pivot or twist but this does not affect paver performance
Is it necessary to dig up an existing surface before installing these new rubber pavers?
New Flexitec Drainage Pavers™ can be installed directly over most existing sub-bases such as asphalt or concrete.
Why should I specify Flexitec pavers?

Because Flexitec pavers are moulded using high temperatures and pressures in computer controlled equipment that is unique in Australia. Every Flexitec paver has the same high density and hard wearing properties. Surfaces that are poured "in situ" or softer pavers moulded at ambient temperatures and lower pressures cannot match these properties. Used with a new technology adhesive, Flexitec pavers have unequalled performance when subjected to the wear and tear of golfers' spikes.
What thickness would be adequate for our application?
15mm thick pavers are adequate for the majority of golf course applications on smooth concrete surfaces. Thicker drainage-grooved pavers may be necessary over uneven or unstable surfaces.
Can we drive golf carts, trucks and turf maintenance equipment over Flexitec pavers?
Yes! Install Flexitec pavers on sound substrate, use approved adhesive and the pavers will take this type of punishment for years.
Are they easy to install?
Flexitec pavers can be installed on any solid sub-base indoors or outdoors using Flexitec adhesive. There are no special tools required and Greens Staff can handle most installations. Flexitec can provide the names of qualified installers if you wish.
