Common questions about Flexitec pavers for equine areas

Do Flexitec pavers stand up to the torture test of constant horse traffic?
Yes. Flexitec pavers are long wearing due to the consistent high density at which they are manufactured. The resilient surface "gives" slightly under the horse's weight rather than wearing away like hard surfaces such as bricks or concrete.
Do Flexitec pavers provide good slip resistance for horses when wet?
Yes. Flexitec pavers are made from recycled tyre rubber, and just like tyres they provide excellent traction in both wet and dry conditions. Flexitec Safety pavers provide such excellent slip resistance that they are used on exposed pedestrian ramps in locations such as railway stations and hospitals.
Are Flexitec pavers suitable for areas that are constantly wet or hosed down every day?
Yes. The Flexitec Drainage paver is designed with deep grooves in the back to allow water to quickly run away underneath the pavers to the drains, ensuring that no water sits on the surface.
Why should I specify Flexitec pavers?
Flexitec pavers are moulded using high temperatures and pressures in computer-controlled equipment that is unique in Australia. This allows close control of the process so that every Flexitec paver has the same density and hard-wearing properties with unequalled performance under the wear and tear of horses' hooves. Flexitec pavers installed in accordance with our installation instructions will last well beyond their warranty period.
What thickness is suitable for equine applications?

15mm Flexitec pavers are more than adequate for the majority of equine applications when installed on a concrete base.
Does the colour remain during the life of the paver?
All Flexitec pavers are available in three standard colours - Charcoal, Terracotta, Blue and Green. The natural colour of the rubber granules will not change, but after prolonged wear the Terracotta and Green pavers may darken. For high visibility areas, Flexitec pavers are also available with a coloured EPDM rubber top layer to your colour design.
Will Flexitec pavers withstand the loads of trucks or other vehicles?
Yes. Solid 15 or 20mm Flexitec pavers are not affected by fully laden trucks. The consistent high density of Flexitec pavers plus the correct spread of adhesive on the back prevents any movement of the paver.
Are Flexitec pavers easy to install?
Yes. There are no special tools required. Following our comprehensive installation instructions, grounds staff are able to handle most installations themselves. Flexitec can arrange installation if you wish.
Are Flexitec pavers expensive?
No. Over the expected life of the surface, Flexitec pavers can cost from as little as $5 per square metre each year.
