Flexitec 1718 Adhesive
General - Flexitec 1718 Adhesive (mixed as Part A and
Part B) is specifically formulated for bonding rubber pavers to most
surfaces including concrete, steel, timber, geotextile fabric and synthetic
grass. Galvanised surfaces require abrading with "fine" emery
cloth and degreasing before applying adhesive.
Storage Conditions - Unopened pails stored at 15-25oC have a shelf
life of 12 months.
If re-using, ensure containers are tightly closed.
Toxicity:
- Read the Material Safety Data Sheet before using the product. Use
gloves and eye protection.
- Skin contact may cause sensitisation and allergic responses in
susceptible individuals.
- Wash skin thoroughly on skin contact.
- Ensure sufficient ventilation during use.
- If swallowed to not induce vomiting. Give a glass of water.
- If eye contact, hold eye open and flood with water for approximately
15 minutes. See a doctor.
Mixing: Ensure the individual components are well
mixed prior to mixing them together.
A suitable stirrer is a single blade with a diameter of 80+mm with a pitch of
about 30oC . Larger blades may cause overheating of the drill particularly in
colder temperatures. A drill of 1000 watts is recommended.
Mix Ratio:
- by volume - 100 parts Flexitec 1718 Part A with 100 parts Flexitec 1718 Part B.
by weight - 100 parts Flexitec 1718 Part A with 87 parts Flexitec 1718 Part
B.
Ensure accurate proportions and thorough mixing until colour is uniform.
Application:
- Ensure any concrete surfaces have cured for 28 days before attempting
to apply adhesive.
- Do not apply adhesive on outdoor applications if rain is likely
before the adhesive cures.
- Surfaces to be bonded must be clean and dry and free from laitence,
dust and grease and demoulding agents. Use appropriate surface
cleaning methods. Consult
your representative for more details.
- The adhesive cures slowly below 15°C and should not be applied
below 12°C Flexitec 1718LT should be specified for temperatures
between 1°C - 12°C
- Open time at room temperature is approximately 50 minutes at 25°C if spread thinly. Adhesive left in the pot will self-heat on
standing
and
reduce the
open time.
- The adhesive is generally applied to one surface only using a
notched trowel (3mm notches) on concrete or a smooth trowel on Flexifelt.
The
paver and
the substrate (eg concrete) should be in contact. This may mean
that the corners
of the paver should be held down during curing (with a brick weight)
until the adhesive cures.
Curing:
The following table indicates approximate curing times of 4020 Adhesive
to full cure at various temperatures. Serviceability times can be significantly
shorter but will depend on the expected loads.
